My Approach
MY VISION: I envision a world where every individual embraces both life and death. I guide people in better preparing for their deaths and the deaths of their loved ones.
WORK OF LIFE: I advocate for people to rejoice in their life by taking good care of their physical, mental, and spiritual health using medicinal plants and nutrition. With this work, people know how to protect themselves from the challenges and repercussions of being human on this planet.
WORK OF DEATH: I help to ensure people are as prepared as possible for their deaths and the deaths of their loved ones, enabling them to focus on relaxing through the journey.
VALUES: I believe every individual should have access to traditional herbal remedies and the opportunity to live a healthy life, embracing the medicine that grows all around them. Additionally, everyone deserves end-of-life care that aligns with their values and brings comfort to them and their loved ones.
My Story
My name is Briana Popoca Salpeter. I am the mother of two beautiful children. I have been practicing herbalism in my home and community for 10+ years.
I am an Apprentice of Curanderismo under the guidance of Maestra Dr. Lisa Martinez and Dr. Samuel Nez, a certified End-of-Life Practitioner (death doula) trained by Alua Arthur, and achieved the designation of NEDA (National End-of-Life Alliance) proficient. I am also an active volunteer at Hospice Austin.
I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, the Ancestral and Sacred lands of the Karankawa. I now live in Austin Texas on the ancestral lands of the Lipan Apache, Coahuiltecans, Comanche, Tonkawa, and Jumano people.
Before reconnecting to my roots in indigenous folk medicine and curanderismo, I studied Western Herbalism with a diverse range of experts, including Nicole Telkes, Ginger Webb, Margi Flint, Rosalee de la Forêt, Matthew Wood, and Phyllis D. Light. I also had the pleasure of studying plant communication with Cathy Skipper and am a student at Magia de Mictlan via Maestro Alexis Arredondo. I was also trained as a birth doula by the late Jessica Atkins.
Additionally, I received a BA in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology from Texas A&M University.
Finally, I am a proud Mexica danzante.
